Spiders!

I had some leftover black olives, so I made a little spider to sit in the hummus. A vegetable cutter made a bat shape in the fig bars. I also used dry erase marker to draw a spider web and spiders on the lid. My son thought it was cool and the next day he drew his own web.

Fall Leaf Garland

This leaf garland was so easy to make. I got my inspiration from A Beautiful Mess. I used yellow yarn and the leaves are felt. My kids had fun helping and we finished three strands of garland in one morning.

Zipper Pouches

I've been making a lot of these boxy pouches. They are so easy! Here is the tutorial: Perfect Box Pouch Tutorial by Made it Modern. Some of the fabric I used was lightweight, so I used fusible interfacing instead. I also added a tabs to make the zipper easier to open and close, especially if I was making the pouch for a child. I added wristlet tabs on the pouches for children, to make it easier for them to carry around. My son keeps his Lego people in his and my daughter is storing her marbles in hers.

I made a bunch of these zipper pouches using fabric I received as a gift. The zippers I scored at Goodwill. They often have sewing supplies for very cheap. Here is the tutorial: Zippered Pouch by Skip To My Lou.

Conversation with my son.

I just asked my son why he didn't want to participate in the pizza lunch at school tomorrow. He said it was because he likes when I make his lunch better. And that he still loves me even when I put something he doesn't like in it. He just melts my heart. Love him!  <3

First set of school lunch ideas.

Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions for this blog. I can provide recipes for muffins and quinoa salad, if requested.

Lunch (top): Tortilla scoop chips, vegetable straws (from Costco), hummus, cucumber, carrots and radishes. My grade one son ate most of this, but left some of the vegetables.
Snacks (bottom): apples (core removed with shape cutter) with no lemon juice, because it tastes yucky to my kids, and cheese crackers.

Lunch: Tortilla scoop chips, shredded cheese, frozen peas and radishes. My grade one son left the vegetables, but did eat some of them when he got home from school. I'd like to included shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes, like the one under "Inspired by", but my son won't eat that... yet.

Three school lunches! Husband on left, Grade one son in middle, and JK daughter on right.
Lunch: crackers, cheese, kielbasa (son only), mostly-healthy banana chocolate chip muffins, quinoa salad and strawberries.
I wrote nicknames and pics with a dry erase marker on the lids.

Lunch: crackers, princess crown cut-out cheese, hummus, breadsticks, grapes, cucumbers, red peppers and kielbasa with hearts cut out of the middle.
